How the Break-Even Calculator Works

This calculator shows the exact sales volume a business needs to cover all its costs, making it useful for pricing decisions, startup planning, and evaluating new products.

It divides your total fixed costs by the contribution margin β€” the selling price minus the variable cost per unit. That tells you how many units must be sold before the business stops losing money and starts turning a profit.

Example: If fixed costs are $10,000/month, your price per unit is $50, and variable cost per unit is $20, your contribution margin is $30. Dividing $10,000 by $30 means you need to sell 334 units a month just to break even.
