How the BMI Calculator Works

Body Mass Index estimates whether your weight is healthy relative to your height. It's a quick screening tool used by doctors worldwide, though it doesn't account for muscle mass or body composition directly.

The metric formula is weight (kg) divided by height (m) squared. The imperial formula is weight (lbs) divided by height (in) squared, multiplied by 703.

Example: A person weighing 70 kg at 1.75 m tall has a BMI of 70 Γ· (1.75 Γ— 1.75) = 22.9, which falls in the normal weight range.
